McCoy Kicker Overview
J G McCoy’s innovative Kicker System delivers a fast, accurate and easy system for casting monolithic concrete upstand details. The Kicker System is ideal for use in retaining walls, in-situ basements, sub-structures, swimming pools, biomass tanks and any aspect that helps the contractor in forming concrete kickers in accordance with BS8102:2009.
Each bracket used in our Kicker System is manufactured by ISO 9001 registered UK manufactures and independently tested and certified. Delivering precision engineered quality to builders in every kicker bracket produced.
Our Kicker System provides the following benefits:
Safe Optimising Practice – removal of strutting or propping of the kicker formwork essentially reduces:
(i) the risk of accidents from slips and trips around the kicker area,
(ii) the amount of waste relating to timber cutting,
(iii) the probability of risks and hazards attributed to both hand and power saw usage.
Universal ease of use – Each bracket fits any rebar size and hangs any timber size. Timber is fully suspended off the rebar. Use is cost efficient for many areas of applications due to optimising the standardisation of the system.
Loop Tie - secures any size timber into the bracket. Tested and certified for 200kg horizontal and vertical loads
Fast, optimised accuracy from telescopic movement of wire to determine kicker width
Tear drop lock down. Thumb screw bites into 5mm wire to lock the bracket into position for kicker width
Robust performance – Strength tests to 200kg vertically & horizontally certification provided by independent testing.
Sustainable productivity – No rubbish from strutting is generated during the striking phase, which reduces skip usage and benefits the contractor’s carbon footprint and their EP&L figures for sustainable practices on site.

“We have been using the McCoy “kicker brackets” very successfully since 2011 and have absolutely no intention to revert to the old style for future projects.
The kicker brackets have reduced our labour costs by around 25%+ because the time usage is considerably less and less skilled labour can be used compared with the more traditional methods (strutting& propping / non-integral kickers) – e.g. steel fixers can do most of the work.
The efficiency gained from the usage of the kickers has also had a very positive effect on project schedules and costs.
With traditional methods for forming a kicker, small cuts of timber and nails are required, producing material wastage and making site housekeeping more difficult and time consuming. For the McCoy kicker bracket, only full lengths of timber are required which are reusable, no wastage and a simple clean operation.
